Questions people ask about Dutch Relish

How long does Dutch Relish take?

About 40 minutes from starting to sitting down, and it is a bit of work. Most of that is active, so read the method through before you start rather than chopping as you go.

What can I use instead of onion in Dutch Relish?

Use shallots, which are sweeter, or leeks for a milder result. Neither browns quite as deeply.

Can I make Dutch Relish ahead of time?

Yes, and it is better for it. Cool it fully, refrigerate for up to three days, and reheat gently with a splash of water. The flavours settle overnight.

Is Dutch Relish vegetarian?

Yes, and as written it is vegan too. Check your specific brands if that matters to you.

How long does home-made dutch relish keep?

Four or five days in the fridge in a sealed jar, or freeze it in portions. Anything with dairy in it is on the shorter end of that.
