Bread slices soaked, squeezed, stuffed with cheese and fried. Absurdly good for what it costs.

25 min Some work Vegetarian

Ingredients

  • 12 slices bread, crusts off
  • 200g cheddar, grated
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt

Method

  1. Dip each slice in water for half a second, then squeeze it flat between your palms. Too long in the water and it disintegrates.

  3. Put a spoonful in the middle, fold the bread around it and seal the ends by pressing.
  4. Deep fry until golden brown. Ketchup or mint chutney.

Questions people ask about Cheese Bread Rolls

How long does Cheese Bread Rolls take?

About 25 minutes from starting to sitting down, and it is a bit of work. Most of that is active, so read the method through before you start rather than chopping as you go.

What can I use instead of bread in Cheese Bread Rolls?

Use any loaf that is a day old. Fresh bread turns to paste in most of these.

Can I make Cheese Bread Rolls ahead of time?

You can prepare it a few hours ahead and reheat gently. It keeps two days in the fridge, though it is best on the day.

Is Cheese Bread Rolls vegetarian?

Yes, and as written it is vegan too. Check your specific brands if that matters to you.

What do you serve with Cheese Bread Rolls?

Ketchup or mint chutney. It serves two as written. Double everything to feed four, but use a wider pan so the food still browns rather than steams.
